This certification was achieved after a nearly two year-process of improvements to the production and chain of custody systems and the successful completion of a thorough certification audit.
Bonsucro ensures that cane production processes comply with sustainability standards at the social, environmental and economic levels and it is exclusive for this crop.
Cañas, Guanacaste. Taboga obtained the international certification Bonsucro, which seeks to keep the sugarcane sector in continuous improvement implementing all three pillars of sustainability -environmental, social and economic-, while promoting the implementation of collaborative actions within the sector.
For Taboga this certification is important in which it is a formal recognition of its sustainability efforts. Additionally, it is a way to increase competitiveness among buyers of raw materials who demand Bonsucro as a way of ensuring sustainability throughout the value chain, especially in European markets.
"It is very important for us to be able to formally establish that our production is sustainable, environmentally friendly, that it is compliant with the policies of soil and water protection, among others. But it is also proof to our buyers and consumers that those who are part of our team work in a space that is free of discrimination and that fully ensures their occupational safety", said José Pablo Montoya, CEO of Taboga.
Bonsucro is a global non-profit initiative devoted to seizing the potential of the sugarcane sector in generating sustainable development within the producer communities, supporting them in becoming more resilient and environmentally harmonious.
